30 - the smell of freshly baked bread

"Your wife must be a wonderful cook, Arisugawa. Just the other day, I smelled the most delicious bread coming from your house!"

Mr. Mamiya smiles at his neighbor. He's only stepped out to pick up a package, but the nosy woman has managed to pounce on him. She's always been curious about their living situation. Sometimes, she sees a college-aged boy come out of their house, but Mr. Mamiya doesn't seem old enough to have a child of that age. Maybe a younger brother?

"You must be talking about my housemate, he loves cooking. I'm unmarried."

Huh? But...

She shakes her head and smiles at him again.

"Two young bachelors, then! I'm sure the two of you will be snapped up in no time. I only wish my husband would cook for me like that."

"Neither of us are interested in marrying other people," Mr. Mamiya says calmly. "I would bury his corpse in the yard if he did."
